about

Air – from “Suite D major BWV.1068” J.S.Bach

Basso continuo:
“The keyboard (or other chording instrument) player realizes a continuo part by playing, in addition to the indicated bass notes, upper notes to complete chords, either determined ahead of time or improvised in performance. The player can also "imitate" the soprano (which is the name for the solo instrument or singer) and elaborate on themes in the soprano musical line.”
-Wikipedia.org
In our version the piano improvises the basso continuo, albeit from a jazz perspective. The ‘chords’ have been notated in jazz terminology. The piano also imitates the soprano line, which in this case is played on soprano saxophone, which adopts a very liberal and fragmented approach to the melody, spontaneously switching between quoting melody and improvising new lines.
